The actress first was engaged in 2004 to Okyeame Kwame, a musician from the country. The duo was travelling throughout Europe and America promoting her then fiance’s solo release.
As they were travelling, Nana took the opportunity to be part of the African American Documentary which took place in Las Angeles, California. The couple split and decided to end their relationship in 2005.
Nana then married her boyfriend, Maxwell Mawu Mensah in 2016. The couple was blessed with a baby girl in 2019. Her daughter, Maxin Mawushi Mensah was born on the 23rd of February in 2019.
News of her pregnancy was confirmed after a commercial shoot she had with Hisense as an ambassador, which was the first time she was seen with a baby bump.

The actress had a life-threatening accident in 2013 when she almost lost her life. It was an accident where her Range Rover Sport was smashed on the driver’s side and squashed and the life of Nana and her boyfriend were almost cut short. Nana was only able to talk about the accident a while after she had got medical attention and was almost fully recovered.
Nana believe that was through the grace of God that she survived the accident. As it was speculated, it was believed that Nana’s car was overloaded, but as they eventually evaluated everything, it turned out that it was only the couple in the vehicle, with Maxwell Mawu Mensah.

Nana has also survived being poisoned twice on set while filming in 2019, which she believes that it was out of jealously of how she ended up in the industry and following the successes she has ever since acquired.

During the shoot, Ama was able to imitate the lead role and the director, Samuel Nyamekye, strongly felt that she was better suited for the role and he hired her on the spot.

She had her first movie role in That Day, which was released in 2001 and from there on, her career had launched. As Nana portrayed the best character she could on That Day, she was afforded more opportunities following the role which was a success for the movie.

Responding to the critics, Nana mentioned that she carried the baby on her own without the help of the public.
The actress was also accused of being the voice behind an audio that was insulting the President John Mahama. The video trending across social media sees a woman knocking on the head of the NDC Presidential Candidate.

Many who viewed the video seemed to think Nana Ama was behind the video however in a disclaimer she released on social media she distanced herself from the video.
